Deportation of a French student in Turkey as a consequence of the #Gezi protests

Turkey is not in the news anymore. The focus of the media shifted to more pressing events in other parts of the world, like Brazil (first because of the massive protests there, later because of a football championship). Even the new massive protests in Egypt are not on the first page of the newspapers anymore; after one month of people in the street, tear gas and messages against their government, attention is focused now in where in the world is hidden Mr. Snowden. However, in Turkey normality has not come back. There are still groups of citizens which non-violent protest [...]

Welcome, Croatia!

During the last week of June we have been warming up for welcoming Croatia in the European Union: the European institutions have focused big part of their communication in introducing the new member to the rest of the club through figures, infographics and cool videos highlighting the assets of Croatia or sharing the impressions of some relevant European politicians (part 1 and Part 2), or promoting the whole idea of enlargement itself.   Moreover. the European Commission held a Youth conference in Zagreb last week, where 80 AEGEE members, and dozens of young Europeans from other NGOs, could [...]

AEGEE-Europe denounces the attack to Youth Rights as the the Spanish Youth Council will be suppressed today

Spanish version on this link AEGEE-Europe, a European student organization present in 19 Spanish cities, claims that the closure of the Spanish Youth Council aggravates the vulnerability of young people in Spain and is a violation of the Constitutional right of youth to be allowed to participate in the political, social, economic and cultural decisions. The Spanish Cabinet of Ministers will approve this closure today in a pack of austerity measures in public administration, without consulting the views of young people. The Spanish Youth Council (CJE) is in the list of organizations that the Spanish Minister Cabinet will close or [...]

AEGEE-Europe launches Y Vote 2014

AEGEE-Europe has launched today a new initiative oriented on increasing youth participation in the upcoming European Parliament elections 2014. The press conference took place in the European Parliament, hosted by MEP Eider Gardiazábal Rubial (S&D). The date of the next European Parliament elections may seem far away but the first step towards raising the awareness has already been taken. As the voting turnout among young people in 2009 was very low, European Students’ Forum AEGEE-Europe decided to start an initiative aiming at changing this trend, namely the Y Vote 2014 project. Today the project team presented their plans in the [...]

Dear Ministers… NOW!

In September 2012, Ministers responsible for Youth from 47 Member States of the Council of Europe congregated for the Ministerial Conference in Saint Petersburg, Russia, to agree on ensuring equal access to Youth Rights for every single young person in Europe. The aim was to achieve this through the adoption of the Declaration “Young people’s access to rights: Development of innovative youth policies in Europe” which would have served as a guideline to all the Ministers’ work in their respective countries. Some officials, however, had problems with ensuring access to Youth Rights for ALL young people inclusively. Ministers failed to [...]

Reaction to the Boston Marathon terrorist attack

The Sports Working Group of AEGEE-Europe would like to express its deepest condolence to all those affected by the bombing at the Boston Marathon. It is hard to imagine in our times that some unscrupulous people are able to perform an action such as what happened yesterday in Boston. The Marathon of Boston is the first modern urban marathon in the world, with a very international character and a renowned event of sport, huge brotherhood between religions, ethnics and political ideologies. Certainly, the tragedy in the afternoon of April 15th only seeks to generate terror among the free thinkers of [...]
