{"id":62,"date":"2012-07-04T20:57:53","date_gmt":"2012-07-04T20:57:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/site.aegee.org\/?p=62"},"modified":"2012-09-10T16:01:34","modified_gmt":"2012-09-10T16:01:34","slug":"earth-is-our-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.aegee.org\/earth-is-our-business\/","title":{"rendered":"Earth is our business"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Right after Rio+20, on 27th of June 2012 AEGEE-Europe organized a round table discussion on\u00a0<strong>the Ecocide law proposal<\/strong>, where keynote speech was given by\u00a0<strong>Polly Higgins<\/strong>, the lawyer of the earth.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Public authorities were presented by\u00a0<strong>Prof. Dr. Mustafa Akayd\u0131n<\/strong>, the Mayor of Antalya Metropolitan Region and former Rector of the Mediterranean University,\u00a0<strong>Emir K\u0131r<\/strong>, State Secretary of the Brussels-Capital Region, responsible for Urban Development and Environmental Maintenance Minister and the youth opinion and highlights from Rio+20 were presented by\u00a0<strong>Mathieu Soete<\/strong>, the speaker of Environmental Working Group of AEGEE-Europe. The roundtable discussion also attended by representatives from NGOs and the European Commission brought together various different opinions and positions for a common interest; ensuring environmental protection on an ever more crowded planet. Following the event, AEGEE-Europe states:<\/p>\n<p><em>Today, when Europe is standing at a critical moment in its history by virtue of economic struggles, we, the European Students\u2019 Forum, demand a Europe grounded on respect for the nature, human rights and economic justice.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Herein, deeply concerned with the unjust violation of ecosystems through human agency, we call for an action to pave the way for a green economy.
