Main aims and tasks:

  • Raising awareness in AEGEE about the importance of language learning and multilingualism, the multilingual heritage of Europe and the linguistic rights and regional languages.
  • Encourage members to learn more languages and reach a higher level in the languages they already speak.
  • Provide people with skills to become better language learners.
  • Foster discussion among European Students regarding Europe’s language policy, increasing the knowledge about effective and non-discriminatory policy options.
  • Create position papers with the opinion of the youth about language policies.

History:

Europe is a continent with a huge linguistic variety including many regional and minority languages. Learning each other’s language is crucial for mutual understanding. Since its foundation, AEGEE has been involved in projects related to languages and intercultural learning.

The Language Working Group wants to promote the rich cultural heritage of Europe and foster mutual understanding among different language communities all over Europe with a special focus on young people. The LWG is aimed to motivate the European youth to learn different languages, especially not the very common ones.

Getting Involved

The ideal member of the Language Working Group is a member of AEGEE who loves learning languages and thinks linguistic diversity is an important aspect of Europe’s cultural richness.

In order to join, needse to contact the team through the above mentioned means. There is no fixed time frame for admitting new members to the team. Applications are always welcomem. When a current team member resigns, there will be an open call to try to fill the gap. There are no official requirements to be fulfilled in order to join the team, simply enthusiasm and willingness to work are needed.
