Dear AEGEE members, In May/June 2014 the European Parliament elections will take place all over the EU, and AEGEE has been preparing a project on the topic. Following the way created by one of our most successful projects in the recent years, we will have Y Vote again as name (as it is still remembered in the European Institutions). But some other things will be different. The Aim of the new project is: TO TURN FIRST-TIME VOTERS AND STUDENTS INTO ACTORS OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT ELECTIONS OF 2014 BY INFORMING AND ENCOURAGING THEM TO PARTICIPATE. Please note that participation in the [...]

The UNEP (United Nations Environment Program) TUNZA International Youth Conferencetook place 10-14th February in Nairobi (Kenya), and it provided a platform for over 300 young people from 100 countries to come together to exchange information, best practices and most importantly, learn from each other. European delegates at TUNZA Youth Conference Participating in the TUNZA International Youth Conference allowed AEGEE to realize once more the enormous potential which young people have to act as change makers in the world. Health4Youth Project: AEGEE-Europe launches a Europe-wide project about healthy lifestyle for students

Is health a priority for students? What are the different opinions on health across Europe? How can we ensure that young Europeans receive proper knowledge on health topics? These are some of the main questions to be addressed and tackled by AEGEE-Europe’s new initiative: The Health4Youth project. “The Health4Youth project touches an important field in the framework of youth policy, the wellbeing of young people and how we can support young people with having a healthy lifestyle” says Eider Gardiazabal, Member of the European Parliament and President of the Youth Intergroup during press conference on 19th of February in the [...]

AEGEE-Europe’s Position on the Communication of the European Commission “Rethinking Education: Investing in skills for better socio-economic outcomes”

AEGEE welcomes the initiative of the European Commission inviting the Member States, the European Parliament, the European Council, the European Economic and Social Committee, and the Committee of the Regions, to reform the structure of the Educational Systems in Europe. We agree that the current education model is outdated and does not match a society that has changed at high speed through the last decades. However, we regret that the Commission does not address education in all its dimensions, but chooses to focus only on its impact on the employment rate of young people. We acknowledge the importance of education [...]

What kind of Europe do we want for 2014-2020?

AEGEE-Europe sadly acknowledges the poor outcome of the summit of the Council of the European Union on 7th and 8th of February, where the European Union’s heads of states agreed upon the European Union’s Multiannual Financial Framework 2014-2020. An agreement was reached which satisfies rather those EU members’ states which prefer to keep the European Union’s means of action limited. For the very first time, the overall expenditure limit of the MFF has been reduced compared to the previous budget, and this after the approval of the Lisbon Treaty which increases the competences of the EU institutions, after the entry [...]

Young Enterprises, Young Entrepreneurs – European Commission “Entrepreneurship 2020 Action Plan”

AEGEE-Europe warmly welcomes the “Entrepreneurship 2020 Action Plan” published by the European Commission earlier this month. As an organisation striving to provide young people with the necessary tools to take their future into their own hands, and concerned by the dangerously high levels of especially youth unemployment throughout the continent, AEGEE-Europe strongly supports the Commission’s aim of reigniting the entrepreneurial spirit in Europe. Photo: The European Commission When going through the Entrepreneurship 2020 Action Plan, one could almost say it has been written after consultation with the teams of the “Europe on Track” project and the hundreds of [...]

Erasmus: You really cannot vote!

Italian Erasmus students and young people abroad for the General Election 2013: the final decision of the Consiglio dei Ministri and the surprising reaction of the Italian Erasmus students. The Council of Ministers held yesterday a meeting with a deep evaluation about the institution of the vote for the Italian General Election 2013 while being abroad for Italian students involved in the Erasmus Programme. During the debate some “insuperable difficulties” (as it was written in the official communication) emerged: the time for changing a constitutional law is too short. The Council of Ministers wishes for the resolution of this important issue [...]
